Numbers reveal how often, or how rarely, states check doctors’ disciplinary records

How often does your state medical board search doctors in the National Practitioner Data Bank?

Surprisingly not often, according to data provided to the Association of Health Care Journalists by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, which runs the data bank.

Get a spreadsheet showing how often each state medical board searches for doctors in the National Practitioner Data Bank. One worksheet shows information about physicians, the other shows information about residents and interns.

AHCJ and other media groups have been pushing the government to restore unfettered access to the Public Use File of the data bank, citing important stories that journalists have written about lax oversight of doctors by state medical boards.

State medical boards have access to complete information within the data bank about a doctors disciplinary history, hospital sanctions and malpractice payouts.

Don’t Feel Bad About Missed School Events

When my eldest son was in preschool, my husband had a full time job outside of the home and often missed all of his school visits. His job was over an hour away, and he never got home before 7 p.m. We only had one car, so often I couldnt make it to them either.

My son would get home from school and talk about his day, and I could tell he was a little disappointed that no one was there for his Halloween parade or the Easter Egg Hunt. When he entered kindergarten, my husband started to work from home so he could spend time with our children. He loves it.

Long-Term Care Insurance Gets Boost From Federal Workers

Although across-the-board interest in long-term care insurance policies has been low, the federal plan is the largest one in the nation — claiming 297,000 enrollees.

Politico Pro: Fed Workers’ Insurance May Offer Lessons In September, the Office of Personnel Management announced that it had added 45,000 people to its long-term care insurance rolls — a 20 percent jump after a three-month enrollment period. It’s the largest long-term care plan in the country, with 297,000 enrollees — all government employees or their families. The surge is notable because long-term care insurance has attracted so few new customers in recent years, even though an estimated 15 million people will need long-term services by 2020. Private

Danish Study Finds No Link Between Cell Phones and Brain Tumors

Updated results from a large study conducted in Denmark found no increased risk of brain tumors among long-term cell phone users. These results were published in the British Medical Journal.

Cell phones emit radio waves. Radio waves are a type of low-frequency (non-ionizing) electromagnetic radiation. Exposure to high levels of this type of radiation can heat body tissue, but studies suggest that the amount of energy produced by cell phones is too low to produce significant heating.[1]

Although concerns have been raised about possible links between cell phones and cancers of the brain and other parts of the head and neck, studies have not found any consistent link.

PRODUCT REVIEW: MHP T ll Bomb

MHP T ll Bomb is a testosterone enhancer product of the natural varieties.  With many of these supplements on the market, MHP T Bomb has some stiff competition.MHP T Bomb has a variety of ingredients geared towards increasing the body’s natural testosterone.  The formulation includes a 5 Phase Hormone Optimizing Blend made up of ZMA (zinc and magnesium aspartate), Tribulus Terrestris, Eurycoma Longifolia (Tongkat Ali), Chrysin and Avena Sativa. The Hormone blend relies on the above ingredients in order to enhance testosterone production.  ZMA for instance is important to the maintenance of testosterone in the body as a deficiency of these minerals has been found to lead to decreased testosterone production.  According to a particular study, supplemental ZMA was found to increase zinc levels by over 11 percent.  Whether this actually helped with strength was however another matter.Tribulus is another important testosterone boosting supplement.  It has been used traditionally in Chinese and Indian medicine as a sexual enhancement or aphrodisiac.  As for strength and muscle mass, the product has had a variety of reports of usefulness amongst its users.Eurycoma Longifolia is a root native to Asia.  Said to increase stamina and virility it has been traditionally used by men as a means of enhancing sexual performance.  Tribulus has an effect on the lutenizing hormone and as such signals the body’s testosterone production mechanisms.  Studies of the herb have shown that it does in fact help with sexual performance and has pro-androgenic qualities.Chrysine is an effective aromatase inhibitor.  As aromatase converts testosterone in the body into estradiol, its use as a bodybuilding supplement makes sense.  While its usefulness remains to be seen in clinical trials, so far the results are interesting.Overall, there are few side effects with this supplement and many reviewers have had good results.  Nevertheless, some others have found it to be a little lacklustre in comparison to its high claims.
