The Associated Press: Va. House GOP Muscles Through Abortion Curbs A Republican supermajority has muscled two of the most restrictive anti-abortion bills in years through the Virginia House, including one that would all but outlaw the procedure in the state by declaring that the rights of persons apply from the moment sperm and egg unite. The bills passed over bitter yet futile objections from Democrats. And one GOP delegate caused the House to ripple when he said most abortions come as “matters of lifestyle convenience.” … The bills now go to the Senate (Lewis, 2/14).

Georgia Health News: State Health Budgets Bring Relief Usually at the midpoint of a Georgia General Assembly session, health care industry groups are scrambling to prevent deep cuts in the budgets of Medicaid and other government programs.

(CNN) — In middle school, Taylor LeBaron struggled to fit into his seat. The desks in class had a ceramic plate attached to the chair.

“I was so large, I couldn’t fit in there,” said LeBaron, now 19. “Every other student could. I couldn’t get my legs to fit underneath the desk or my stomach to fit between the chair without getting the desk stuck with me.

“It was really embarrassing.

The study, reported in the American Journal of Cardiology, followed more than 3,400 NFL players who were active between 1959 and 1988. It found that 334 had died by 2007 — only about half the rate that would be expected based on U.S. norms.

Of 498 defensive linemen, 41 died of cardiovascular causes.

And there’s the argument that a high BMI based on muscle is not so bad, Baron pointed out in an interview.

“But I think this makes it clear that if you’re big and muscular at a young age, it could have a long-term (health) effect,” Baron said.

The problem, she noted, is that once big athletes are no longer in the game, it’s very hard to keep up their former physical activity levels.

Jan. 27, 2012 — Children with high levels of the heavy metal cadmium in their urine may be more likely to have learning disabilities and/or need special education, a new study shows.

Cadmium occurs naturally in some soils. Children are most likely to be exposed to it through food such as grains and root vegetables, as well as through tobacco smoke. Some children’s toys and jewelry have also been found to contain cadmium.

Cadmium exposure can damage the kidney and lungs and has been linked to cancer. Studies on whether or not it affects learning and behavior among children have had mixed results.

In the new study of close to 2,200 children ages 6 to 15, those who had the highest levels of cadmium in their urine were more likely to have learning disabilities or need special education, compared to children with the lowest levels of this metal in their urine.

Drugs that block the effects of estrogen have been shown to reduce the risk of breast cancer in women at high risk of the disease. Two drugs that have been approved for breast cancer risk reduction in certain groups of women are tamoxifen and Evista® (raloxifene).

In December, CBS 11 reported about 7-year-old Zach Guillot, a Dallas first-grader who is undergoing chemotherapy for a rare form of leukemia.

He was diagnosed with the disease two-and-half years ago and has already undergone a bone marrow transplant. His younger brother, Jake, generously donated it to him.

That worked briefly, but the cancer returned in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. He now needs a donor outside the family to step forward.

In our original story, Dr. Victor Aquino called the need for another donor a “life or death matter.”

Doctors say the boy may not be able to survive another relapse, should symptoms return.

Well, each year the Yavneh Academy, an Orthodox Jewish high school in North Dallas, teams with Carter Bloodcare to host a blood drive. Thi

When it comes to building a lean muscular physique, focusing only on gym time will not serve you. While workouts are essential, what you put into your body to fuel these intense training sessions is equally important. In fact, some experts suggest that as much as seventy percent of the results you see will be based upon the kind of nutrition you are providing for your body. As such, it pays to find out which foods really can spur muscle development.According to nutritional experts, eggs are one of the best foods for muscle bulk. They are full of protein and are easy to prepare. Add these to your diet as a means of fueling your muscle growth exponentially.Fish likewise is another great source of lean protein. It also contains the essential fatty acids needed for optimal health and development of lean muscle mass. Lean meats like chicken, turkey and even lean beef are also great. These provide essential vitamins and minerals like vitamin b 12 and zinc needed for muscles. Red meat in moderation is a great addition to the diet especially for those individuals who are training hard.Blueberries are also important as they provide a lot of antioxidants and can be easily added to cereals, oatmeal, smoothies and yogurt. Even just with a bowl of skim milk or a simple smoothie, you can get a tasty treat all the while knowing you are providing your body with important fuel.Green veggies are often overlooked by those training and bulking up, but green veggies should not be given such short shrift in the bodybuilding world. Green vegetables not only bring a host of health benefits but they are also especially vital for those who may be eating a diet heavy in protein. They are also high in fiber which is often needed when following a high protein, low carb diet. And of course, greens tend to be low in calorie content but high in nutritional impact. Finally, a good protein powder can make all the difference when it comes to building lean muscle mass. While a good diet is certainly key, it can be hard to actually get everything you need to really optimize muscle development. Adding a protein shake or protein supplement to your daily regime will greatly improve your workouts and results. A protein supplement can help you dramatically improve your overall physique and it doesn’t require much effort in terms of preparation or planning.

Every club, coach and player is constantly on the lookout for the ultimate training methods, as they try to get the edge on their opponents.

Training is hugely important, which is why football players are punished if they step out of line. Take, for example, Man Utd’s Wayne Rooney, who got into trouble with his manager over Christmas. His lacklustre performance following a night out saw him dropped from the team and fined.

On the blue side of Manchester, City boss Roberto Mancini believes players need to be reminded that they have to work hard to achieve success. All players are the same, he says.

Jessica Alba was that mom. And the company that she created?

The Honest Co.

Jessica wanted eco-friendly, convenient, affordable and beautiful products for her girls and for everyone else. I love that she was concerned with the environment, sustainability and making this world a better place. Were talking diapers, shampoo, conditioner, lotions, balms, soap, bubble bath, sanitizer, sunscreen and detergents she wanted honest products.

NEW YORK — The digital age has left men’s nether parts in a squeeze, if you believe the latest science on semen, laptops and wireless connections.

In a report in the venerable medical journal Fertility and Sterility, Argentinian scientists describe how they got semen samples from 29 healthy men, placed a few drops under a laptop connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi and then hit download.

Four hours later, the semen was, eh, well-done.

A quarter of the sperm were no longer swimming around, for instance, compared to just 14 percent from semen samples stored at the same temperature away from the computer.

And nine percent of the sperm showed DNA damage, three-fold more than the comparison samples.

The culprit?
